Starter Boxes

Booster Display Box & Packs

Booster packs have an acrylic character standee with display base, a character card, and a set of six action cards. Some packs (like this one) also have a foil version of the character card.

Card Designs
The various card types of Japanime Tactics. A lot of this design was inspired by Japanese collectible card games, and I set out to make a border design and treatment for the game’s components that would work for the Granblue Fantasy license, but that would also work just as well for other fantasy anime licenses – that’s something in the works for this game system.

The back of each character’s card also functions like a checklist. It shows you the six action cards associated with that character and their icons, which helps you evaluate how a group of characters might work as a team. Any character can use any action card for a generic action, but receives bonuses based on whether the icons and colours match their own character card.

Punchboard Tokens & Terrain

Map Tile Illustrations
To provide a modular play area for the characters to maneuver around and battle upon, I illustrated a set of 8 double-sided tiles. Standardized terrain markings tell you what each square does, but the underlying artwork isn’t perfectly contained by them so that it appears more natural. I ended up doing a lot of research into illustration and animation techniques for anime to be able to emulate the linework and shading style, and drew everything in Photoshop. The elevated hill areas were made to look convincing if used 2-D, even if players will just cover them with the 3-D hill terrain included in the box.

Rulebook Layout

The inside back cover of the rulebook includes assembly instructions, and a helpful diagram of how to store everything nicely when you’re done with the game. The 2-piece boxes that make up the game’s hill terrain are also perfect for storing the various tokens after they’ve been punched out.
