Evil Dead 2™ Deluxe Edition Board Game

Game Box

Most of the space inside the box is taken up by trays with clear plastic lids for miniatures, but the bottom tray leaves a space for cards and tokens. The folded game board, rulebook, and player boards go on top of the two trays.

Card Designs
Since the deluxe edition is a reprint of the game, we decided to offer an upgrade kit for players who owned the previous version of the game. This took the form of a large cardstock envelope containing the new rulebook as well as updated player boards and cards–all the paper components that also come in the deluxe edition box.

Player Board & Item Token Illustrations
Each player uses a player board to keep track of the various items they find, and how common those items are. It also servers as a rules reference since the effects of every item token they might find are also listed here. The artwork variations for the pages of the Necronomicon are based on stills from the movie, but many other items are original and had to be illustrated.

Game Board & Playmat Illustration
Fans of Evil Dead 2™ are especially dedicated, so I knew they were going to scrutinize our game board illustration closely. I scrubbed back and forth through the film, noting tons of little details in the cabin interior and exterior film sets to incorporate into the finished piece.

The standard game board is approximately 22×22″. For the neoprene playmat add-on, I choose to widen our view to 36×22″ to include a wooden table surface with pile markers for the various card types. I also moved the corruption track from the top edge of the game board to better use available table space.

3-D Cabin Walls
Intended as the ultimate upgrade to the game board for the deluxe edition, I designed and illustrated a set of 3-D cabin walls that line up to the cabin artwork on the game board (or play mat). A whole host of minute details from the film set were reproduced on the walls here. Putting together a dozen cardboard wall sections can be a little tricky, so I put together a numbering system and instruction sheet.

Punchboard sheet layout for the cabin walls. The middle of each sheet has a diecut fold like a typical game board, which helps reduce the total number of pieces. It also ensures that the longer cabin walls can be flat-packed into the game box.
